BETWEEN GREEN AND SACRED ART IN TUSCANY
Montale is positioned in the heart of the Montagna Pistoiese characterized by an area partly hilly and flat, facing the Apennines.
The country was an important stopping point of the via Clodia for who moved towards Pistoia, but develops as a settlement in the middle ages. The old castle which was built by the inhabitants of Pistoia in 1206 needed to counter the hegemony of the counts Guidi and became a shelter for locals. The castle was destroyed after the battle with Florence and around the remains of the 14th century the town developed.
Visiting the historic center you reach the Chiesa of San Giovanni Evangelista, where inside is the Samaritan woman of neoclassical painter Pietro Benvenuti and classical frescos in S.
