The striking Valle del Casentino is one of four main valleys of the province of Arezzo, here flows the first stretch of the River Arno which originates from Monte Falterona then merge along its route with the splendid unspoiled landscape in some places.
IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE ETRUSCANS
Valle del Casentino preserves within its territory countless places of Enchantment, mostly to areas such as the Lago degli Idoli (monte Falterona), an archaeological site that has returned a large number of votive statuettes in confirmation of the sacredness of the place.
The first traces of human settlements in the area, on the other hand, are very old; the Etruscan ruins in the Valley bear witness to the presence of this great civilization a little in all its centres. In medieval times the area was subjected to the feudal Lordship of the counts Guidi of which trace in the beautiful castle, worth a visit, in the town of Poppi.
LANDSCAPES WHICH ARE NEVER THE SAME
In Casentino, oval shaped, it is still possible to enjoy charming views which are never the same between them, ranging from scenic mountain areas, low-lying and hilly ones at the bottom of the Valley.
Traditions and typical products
Casentino is a land of ancient traditions and craftsmanship, famous panno casentinese, a brightly colored wool fabric whose most famous and ancient production center is in the village of Stia; among other artisan activity casentinese wrought iron and stone.
Numerous and inviting the typical food and wine, like the scottiglia, made with different varieties of meat and this also referred to as earth "caciucco", tortelli di patate or mountain products such as, the honey, collected a bit in all communities in the territory and the chestnuts, variety raggiolana, raw material with which it produces sweet flour casentinese.

Valle del Casentino is divided in the municipalities that are part of the Union of mountain municipalities of Casentino: Bibbiena, Castel Focognano, Castel San Niccolò, Chitignano, Chiusi della Verna, Montemignaio, Ortignano Raggiolo, Poppi, Pratovecchio Stia, Subbiano and Talla.
