A STORY AROUND THE ANCIENT MONASTERY
Vaiano is positioned in the heart of Valle del Bisenzio characterized by an area partly hilly and flat, facing the Apennines.
In the tenth century Vaiano is built around the Monastero of Badia San Salvatore. The old building became very important for the economic development of the village in that favored the development of agriculture in the countryside and woodland surroundings. Today the monastery is a museum complex, where you can find a rich documentation of the monks who once lived there and in the country's history. During the Middle Ages was fortified by constructing defensive walls protecting the town. Of the ancient structures does not remain, but its medieval past is reflected through the presence of some churches.
