THE CHARM AND MYSTERY OF THE VILLAGE SUBMERGED
Vagli Sotto the Garfagnana is a village nestled between the peaks of some mountains of the Apuan Alps which adorn the landscape.
The discovery of numerous archaeological finds, testifies that Vagli Sotto was first inhabited in the 4th century BC by the Etruscans. However, during the early Middle Ages the village was consolidated under the Dominion of the Byzantines and the Lombards, who built a fortification around the town.
Vagli Sotto hides at the bottom of the Lake the old village of Fabbriche di Careggine. A fascinating place, rich in mystery and known as the ghost town. The village was abandoned in 1947 and the last time she saw the light was in 1994 when a maintenance of the dam was drained the Lake.
Traditions and typical products
In the refreshment of Vagli di Sotto you can find all the products in the Garfagnana and the typical dishes prepared with traditional recipes. The homemade pasta is topped with savory meat sauces Tuscany or mushrooms of wooded area nearby.
