Yesterday ended the 24th edition of the Carnival of the Sons of Bocco, an event held in Castiglion Fibocchi, in the province of Arezzo, about forty kilometers north of Foiano della Chiana, home of the oldest Carnival in Italy (which this year reached the 481st edition).
Not everyone knows about this event, which also has ancient origins (there are traces of carnival celebrations in Castiglion Fibocchi since the 12th century A.D.), but that has found in the modern era its peculiar style: it is in fact a feast of wonderful baroque masks, which move ether in the medieval village .
The beauty of this Carnival is in the mysterious atmospheres evoked by the looks behind the masks, in the harmonies of colors that flood the alleys of the old town, to the delight of children who are photographed next to fairytale clothes.
Visitors to the Carnival of the Sons of Bocco can vote for the favorite mask, which becomes the "Queen Mask". This 2020 edition was won by the mask "The Gardens of March".
