Montalbano embroidery is an ancient art of skilful technique of hand workmanship of the local women. Today through the rediscovery of workshops and exhibitions this tradition manifested its full value.
The embroidery of Montalbano has ancient origins dating back to the 19th century. Particularly in its technique, the type of sewing that was provided for a double period, a review of the first seam, which outlined the contours and gracing the stuffs.
In historic Scuola dei Merletti di Lamporecchio not only produced tablecloths, coasters and accoutrements, but real works of art preserved in churches and museums as ornaments of valuable sculptures.
On 2 July 2017 was staged an exhibition dedicated to the woman who gave importance to this culture, Laura Merrick, and beautiful masterpieces that were created over the years in Montalbano to continue to create an excellence of the territory. A story that is told through exhibits of great value and that testifies to a passion and skill to one of the oldest arts, now recovered as patrimony of the whole Tuscany.
