The 50 years of the Tuscan wine Sassicaia, symbol of excellence

The first Italian wine to have a name reserved for a single company

The wine with the iconic golden compass rose, on a blue field, designed in tenuta San Guido Bolgheri, turns today 50 years.

In 1968 it was released the first vintage of Sassicaia, so desired by the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and the famous Italian winemaker Giacomo Tachis, at that time a young college student, with the dream of creating a similar wine, for notoriety, at Bordeaux.

In the mid-' 70, Sassicaia, with its unmistakable taste and its Ruby Red was already known and appreciated throughout the world.

On 5 November 1994, with a ministerial decree, came up with the name "Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC", the first to be devoted entirely to a single Winery, whose boundaries still reside on the estate San Guido Bolgheri. An important recognition that sanctioned the success of a family and an extraordinary land.

The dream of the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta to create a wine with unique characteristics but all equivalent to fame to Bordeaux, it was realized.

Today, the Sassicaia is considered one of the most famous Italian wines in the world, a symbol of high quality and Made in Italy.

The 50 years of Sassicaia reflect and summarize the values of Tuscany, taking the form of a timeless image of perfect symbiosis between man and nature. A large region is told through the wines it produces, and thus to the world its outstanding quality.
