THE HISTORY ALONG THE ARNO
Lovely village situated on the left bank of the Arno, Subbiano is only 12 kilometers from its province, Arezzo, in a landscape where alternate harmoniously olive groves and vineyards.
Its history goes back to Roman times when the venue was considered under the protection of the God Janus, one of the oldest Roman deities, as suggested by the etymology of its name "sub jano". Subbiano Pier Saccone Tarlati di Pietramala was led until, brother of Bishop Guido Tarlati left her to the city of Florence. The country still holds the impressive castle overlooking the River from the 11th century, with its beautiful Torre Longobarda, to act as silent guardians of historic squares and the old mill in the village.
Traditions and typicality
Traditional event of early September is the Festa dell'uva, an event during which evoke the traditions and customs peasants with parades of floats with grapes grown in various fractions of Subbiano.
To keep alive the agricultural tradition of the place it was born in the country even the Museo della casa contadina, which are reconstructed room in the domestic life of the peasants, to document the conditions socio-economical.
