THE VILLAGE NESTLED IN THE APENNINES
Sillano Giuncugnano is characterized by the presence of a part of mountain territory that is projected towards the Apennines.
Its history is tied to the vicissitudes of Sillano. The village was inhabited by the Romans and was among the territories of Garfagnana who resented the medieval battles between Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
The main points of interest are the surroundings of the village, the green that makes available through the woods that grow near the Apennines.
Outside the old town you can visit the Passo di Tea, a splash zone which in the middle ages, connecting Parma to Lucca. Near the road were traced ancient artifacts of the hospital of San Nicolao that welcomed the needy in those years.
Traditions and typical products
In Sillano Giuncugnano you can discover the specialties of Garfagnana. Besides the chestnuts collected in the Woods, you can taste the Tuscan cutting boards with the pecorino of Garfagnana and the Biroldo, a tasty salami product with pig waste.
