THE HISTORIC TOWN HALL MEDICEA
Serravalle Pistoiese lies on the border between Valdinievole and the flat area of Pistoia, Prato and Florence. Just that its position has always been attracted to nearby cities, so that before the conquest of Florence was the subject of contention between Pistoia and Lucca.
In the second half of the 16th century, became the seat of the Medici's Podestà tying its name to important Florentine family history thanks to Cosimo I de' Medici.
Traditions
In Serravalle Pistoiese every year we celebrate two events related to the medieval past that has marked the history of this Tuscan town.
Il Miracolo di San Lodovico, the Patron Saint's day dedicated to the Saint who saved the city for the first time during sieges of Lucca in 1306. One of the longest and fascinating traditions related to Christian culture Tuscany which takes place from seven centuries.
Il Palio dei Mercenari is a medieval reenactment in which the contrade of the town compete in archery shots with ancient instruments. An event born in 1993, but very much appreciated for their ability to pass on the ancient customs and traditions of yesteryear.
