The neighborhoods that gave rise to the town of Montalcino relive their past and their secular tradition through the reenactment of the Sagra del Tordo. Sagra del Tordo 1958 is celebrated from the last Sunday in October.
Is one of the oldest festivals of Tuscany region and this is not only an opportunity to taste the food stalls set up under the fortress walls, the delicacies of this rich territory, as Roz al sugo (pici called so in Val d'Orcia), pappardelle with wild boar sauce, grilled meat accompanied by renowned Brunello di Montalcino wine. But it is also a time in which the four districts, Borghetto (white and red), Pianello (blue and white), Raju (yellow and blue) and Labor (yellow and red), compete in an archery competition that makes Tingle and rejoice all people of Montalcino.
The event is one of the most anticipated of the year with the opening of fee hunting in August. Not surprisingly this festival has its origins in the hunting tradition of the area. Montalcino, surrounded by one of the richest lands of Tuscany olive groves and vineyards, sees a consistent flow of migratory birds in October rather than in other areas, precisely the thrushes.
In the middle ages the hunters returned home full of game and the women of the village were parading their mastery in Cook its prey. Today during the Festival a group of Montalcino dressed as in the 19th century, parade through the streets of Montalcino in a parade, musicians of the folk group the Trescone flood the streets of music and invite you to join the rich banquet.
