GEOTHERMIC MUSEUM UNDER THE OPEN SKY
The municipality of Pomarance lies on the border between the provinces of Pisa and Siena, and is particularly renowned for the development and exploitation of geothermal energy in his hamlet of Lard, also called area "Valle del Diavolo ". Fans can visit the Museo della geotermia, which illustrates the history of geothermal energy of the territory and its industrial development.
The earliest forms of occupation of the territory date back to the Neolithic age and subsequently the Etruscan civilization. From 1472 Pomarance passes under the Government of the Republic of Florence. Downtown several points of interest: Porta alla Pieve, old front door of the medieval castle which once stood in the country and which today leads to the oldest part of the village; Casa Bicocchi, home museum in the city center, set up to show a cross-section of middle-class life in a typical 19th century wealthy family, with period furniture and furnishings to enrich the rooms.
Traditions and typical products
The traditional Palio di Pomarance, it has the name of Palio but in reality it is neither a horse race nor a medieval carousel, but instead a theatrical challenge between the four districts of the country: Marzocco, Centro, Paese Nuovo and Gelso. In you work hard all year to prepare the costumes, set design and screenplay of representation which will compete. An event, the Palio, which involves all the land, always very involved in the event.
Among the local products, the bread of Montegemoli (part of the municipality of Pomarance), homemade product made with flour of type 2, obtained by milling wheat that holds the ashes and thus gives the bread its distinctive and characteristic flavor; and "ricciarelli" of Pomarance, typical sweets made with almonds.
