The area in which it stands today the Plaza Lucchesi, was once inhabited by two orders of nuns, while facing the garden and the garden of the Church of Santa Croce, built by the Franciscans in the 13th century.
Lungarno as we know it today was built in place of the old walls, and the buildings that stood, were rebuilt and fitted with elegant facades.
Thus was born in 1860 the "Pension Lucchesi", who had adopted the name French pension.
Pension bore the name of its founders, Demetrio and Emilia Lucchesi, who in 1890 hosted the King of Italy, Umberto I, with his family.
To be worthy of a King, the Board had to have modern amenities and one of the first advertising cards signals the presence of electric light, lift and tram which connected with the station. Could not miss one of the most innovative inventions of the time: the phone, came to Florence in 1881.
In 1952 also pension Lucchesi was restructured as a result of conflicts: the House was raised by two floors and, within it, the difference between the old and the new one is still visible, because the scale of wrought iron and stone, leaves space on the two floors above a marble staircase.
At this time the property changed not only appearance, but also category name and owners: from Inn became a hotel under the name "Plaza Lucchesi".
From that moment begins the history of the modern Plaza Hotel Lucchesi characterized by ahigh level of hospitality.
With the restructuring of 2014, was performed on the hotel rooftop pool with view.
In addition to having hosted the King of Italy in 1890, the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi has seen pass through many famous people on the international scene: singers like Domenico Modugno, Amii Stewart, Céline Dion and David Byrne of Talking Heads, actors like Philippe Noiret, Mark Hamill, Anita Ekberg and author Vasco Pratolini.
