A BATH HOUSE IN THE VILLAGE OF TUFF
The entire territory of Pitigliano, situated on a picturesque hilly expanse of Maremma, is characterized by the Tuff area which extends into the Western side of Tuscany. Crossing downstream from some beautiful waterways, the village has a wonderful vertical development where stand out beautiful caves of this particular rock.
Its history is linked to the alternation of Tuscan families that embellished the whole village. It was as the beautiful Palazzo Orsini still open to visitors with a beautiful inner courtyard adorned by a well.
Just outside the medieval town stands the Duomo with its Baroque façade and the Madonna con Bambino, Angeli e Santi on the sacristy by Guidozzo Cozzarelli.
To have some fun the ideal are the Terme di Pitigliano, unique because surrounded by lush vineyards and olive trees typical of the beautiful landscape of the Maremma.
Traditions
Two traditional festivals celebrated in Pitigliano the arrival of spring.
The Festa Pitiglianese, the traditional event that the village celebrated for years. A special Festival for the excellent Maremma serving dishes and for the festive atmosphere that surrounds it.
The Torciata di San Giuseppe, a historical pageant, tied to a Pagan tradition that lighted a cleansing fire for the new season.
Typical products
Pitigliano is known for its abundant Tuscan careful to propose always yummy and tasty. The more details are the "sfratti", candy canes filled with honey, aniseed and spice and the "sweet tortello", a sweet puff pastry filled with cinnamon and perfumed with the addition of cinnamon.
