THE VILLAGE ON THE VIA DEL VOLTO SANTO
Piazza al Serchio lies on the river basin, on the hills of Garfagnana.
The country experienced a development in the middle ages as a result of its strategic position between the Emilia Romagna and Liguria. For a long time it was under the Republic of Lucca, who took charge of building many of the facilities still in the area.
Piazza al Serchio is a branch of the Via Francigena called via del Volto Santo, a scenic road that you can follow to plunge into the medieval charm of the village and its surroundings. In the village of Sant'Anastasio, always outside the old town, you can visit a small church which houses a Gothic triptych of 1420, by Filippino Lippi.
Traditions and typical products
Piazza al Serchio is always careful to emphasize the typical products of the region. The many events organized in the village offer the typical toscane prepared with traditional recipes, like farro dishes. Often the gastronomic events are linked to enhance the flavor of this wheat, whose Piazza al Serchio is the largest producer of Garfagnana.
