BETWEEN CHIANTI AND CASTLES

Set on a hill, the municipality of Montespertoli is located a few kilometers from Florence and San Gimignano. Located along the Via Volterranea connected to the equally famous Via Francigena. Thanks to its strategic position, has always been in touch with the great Tuscan towns, which has undoubtedly contributed to its development over the centuries. Inhabited in Etruscan and Roman times, in the middle ages were the first settlements.

The Castello di Montespertoli, originally of the Lords of Montespertoli, when the family came together with their goods and possessions to Machiavelli. The history of the territory remained has always been linked to various aristocratic families who owned agricultural properties in the municipality. The commercial importance of the village is also demonstrated by the rise, over the centuries, several castles still visible today in the territory, such as those of Poppiano, Montegufoni and Sonnino.

 

Traditions and typical products

Thanks to its climate and its land, the area of Montespertoli is pre-eminently suited to the cultivation of the vine. Here comes the famous Chianti Montespertoli, celebrated in the applicant Mostra del Chianti  held every year for 60 years in the country. At the heart of the famous wine tasting program and parades in historical costumes.
