A VILLAGE OVERLOOKING THE SEA
Montescudaio has a fascinating history linked to his name. The name is derived from "Mount of Shields", or "the Squires", a testament to its strategic position and the castle of the Gherardesca counts, which administered the territory for many centuries.
It's easy to get lost in its narrow cobbled streets and fragrant smells of craft shops. In the middle of a green area full of olive trees and vineyards, Montescudaio has some extremely valuable craft productions of food and drink in the Val di Cecina.
Traditions and Typical products
Wine and oil are the best products that this place in the Tuscan countryside has always been. Along the woodland trails outside the city you can find some rest areas offering local specialities.
In October the country gathers in one of the most characteristic parts of Tuscany: Wine Festival, where you can taste the fine wines based on Sangiovese, the DOC's productions of Montescudaio.
