THE COUNTRY RECOUNTED BY DANTE ALIGHIERI
Monteriggioni is positioned halfway between Siena and Volterra extending up to the hilly area Montagnola Senese. The village is surrounded by thick forests that cross it and that can be followed to get to the tourist park of Via Francigena.
The ancient history of Monteriggioni is intertwined with the battles between Siena which had control, and Florence. The Republic of Siena had built a castle to defend against attacks, but in Florence he decisive attacks which carried her to victory, as at the time of the collision the narrated by Dante Alighieri: Battle of Colle of 1269.
Even today you can see the ancient walls of the thirteenth-century castle, passable by two strokes and from where you have a view of the beautiful surrounding landscape overlooking the Chianti. Always Monteriggioni is careful to give value to the products of their land. In addition to wines "Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG", this Tuscan "Vin Santo" is made, ideal to accompany the "cantuccini".
