SMALL VILLAGE BETWEEN THE CASENTINO FORESTS
The village of Montemignaio extends on the slopes of Pratomagno among oak and chestnut woods that for centuries have been the primary resource for locals. Its history is tied to that of the Guidi counts, to whom we owe the walls and the Tower of the Castle, Castel Leone, they belonged until 1359 when the country came under the rule of the Florentine Republic. Montemignaio consists of many small towns scattered, partly around the Pieve of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most impressive Romanesque buildings of Casentino, erected by the Countess Matilda of Canossa around 1100, and partly along the the edge of the torrent splinter.
Traditions and typicality
The main product of Pratomagno and the Casentino is the chestnut, which she obtained the precious chestnut flour with excellent organoleptic properties; starting point for many traditional local recipes.
