The wine of Montecucco DOC comes from the wonderful territory of the Maremma hinterland which includes the municipalities of Cinigiano, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Seggiano and Roccalbegna, province of Grosseto. These places are dotted along the famous "strada del vino Montecucco".
The earliest evidence of viticulture in the area of Montecucco date back to the Etruscan period; strong of thousand-year tradition the many winemakers have established the Consorzio Tutela del Montecucco (2000) for the supervision and valorization of denomination. Montecucco DOC wines are red, rosé, white, Vermentino, vin santo, vin santo occhio di pernice, each with respectable organoleptic characteristics. The Montecucco bianco as well as Vermentino are pale yellow and have a fresh and delicate taste and aroma; while red wine, ruby-colored has a full flavor and an intense smell. This DOC is also considered one of the best Italian wines and is often associated with the cousin major of Montalcino.
