HOME OF EUROPE'S LARGEST COPPER MINE
Montecatini Val di Cecina, located west of Volterra is an ancient village with a charming medieval history tied to the wars between Pisa and Volterra. In the 19th century, the ancient mining activity linked to copper experienced a strong development. Which is also very old, and dating back to Etruscan times, Montecatini over the years Europe's biggest mining headquarters.
Today in beautiful Montecatini you can observe some precious architectures built in selagite, a particular stone from local deposits. These include the Chiesa di San Biagio and the Torre Belforti.
Traditions and Typical products
This lovely place in the place of the Val di Cecina retains all the traditional recipes of Tuscan cuisine. Just outside the village you can encounter a few wine shops surrounded by greenery of Volterra to taste the best Tuscan wines.
Montecatini owes its economic growth to thecopper mining and selagite. Both have created a culture linked to craftsmanship, respecting the traditionalism of Tuscan handmade.
