In Massa Marittima from 3 to 5 August 2022 "Lirica in Piazza" returns, one of the most important and awaited opera events, which this year crosses the finish line of the 35th edition.
Three new evenings of opera singing with artists of international level, which will be staged in the churchyard of the Cathedral of San Cerbone: Giuseppe Verdi's Otello on August 3rd; Moni Ovadia recounts Don Giovanni on August 4 and La Traviata on August 5. Start of the shows at 21 and 15.
"Lirica in Piazza is a winning bet – comments Irene Marconi, Councillor for Culture of Massa Marittima – we are at the thirty-fifth edition, an important milestone for a small provincial town like ours, which has managed to establish itself in the international cultural scene with this Festival. This year we will have on stage singers of great experience, such as Zampieri, who interprets Otello but also very young talents selected throughout Europe, thanks to the collaboration activated by Massa Marittima with the international competition of Opera Singing Ottavio Ziino, from which come the singers who will perform at Lirica in Piazza on August 4th, all finalists of the competition. Equally important to realize the Festival are the collaborations activated on the territory, starting from the massetano orchestra master, Maurizio Morgantini who directs La Traviata, and then the pro loco with its volunteers, the Terzieri society and the choir of Santa Barbara - the choir of our city - which this year celebrates its seventieth anniversary and which has always historically collaborated for Lirica in Piazza ".
Here is the program: on August 3 to play the role of Otello will be a great tenor, Gianluca Zampieri, who has already played this role obtaining awards and recognitions. The Otello, for the first time in Massa Marittima, will have a special setting designed to enhance the beauty of this particular and evocative location. The opera singers will perform with the europa musica live orchestra of over 50 elements and with the 40-piece Italian Opera Choir. The other performers are: Sergio Bologna who will be Jago, Francesca Romana Tiddi is Desdemona; Stefano Sorrentino as Cassio; Irene Molinari is Emilia; Guido Bernoni is Roderigo. The orchestra is conducted by Maestro Claudio Maria Micheli and directed by Gianmaria Romagnoli.
August 4 will be staged "Moni Ovadia tells the story of Don Giovanni", will be a special evening with the evocative formula of the opera recital. The orchestra will not be present nor the choir: the concert master Sergio La Stella will have the task of accompanying the interpreters on the piano with the special intervention of the writer and actor Moni Ovadia, as a narrator. Don Giovanni will be played by Giulio Boschetti and Donna Anna by Mimma Briganti; Don Ottavio by Federico Vita; The Commander by Viktor Krastanov; Donna Elvira da Marianna Map; Leporello by Carlo Alberto Gioia; Zerlina by Sabrina Sanza; Masetto by Eugenio Di Lieto. The direction is curated by Gianmaria Romagnoli. It will be an interesting and particular reinterpretation of the work even for the younger audience less accustomed to opera music. Many of the young talents who will take the stage come from the international singing competition Ottavio Ziino who collaborates with Lirica in Piazza.
On August 5, this edition of Lirica in Piazza with La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi closes, already proposed in the 2015 edition and brought back on stage to satisfy the numerous requests of the public who asked to have it back in Massa Marittima. A brand new set-up for this evening in which the singers will perform with the live orchestra of Europa Musica composed of 50 elements and the Italian Lyric Choir composed of 40 elements. The conductor is the maestro Maurizio Morgantini from Massetano and the direction is curated by Natale De Carolis, a famous baritone, who has trod the scenes of the most important theaters in the world and then became passionate about directing. The protagonists of the evening will be: the soprano Paola di Gregorio in the role of Violetta Valery and the tenor Giorgio Casciarri who plays Alfredo Germont.
