THE VILLAGE OF ANDREA BOCELLI
Lajatico is placed over a hill lying on the River was in the heart of Valdera.
The village has ancient Etruscan origins, but it began to develop around the castle that was built in the 12th century. After a few clashes with Pisa, Florence won dominion over the Castle making Lajatico its own fief.
Lorenzo il Magnifico, after the fortification was destroyed as a result of other fights, he stayed several times in this village in Villa di Spedaletto. Today the villa is still present, and preserve what remains of frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio and Sandro Botticelli that embellished the residence.
Traditions and typicals
In Lajatico typical products coming from Earth and from the manufacture handmade. Legumes like farro and chickpeas are used to prepare tasty soup or homemade pasta with chickpeas.
For years now, in the open area of the Teatro del Silenzio held musical performances of the singer Andrea Bocelli, townsman of Lajatico.
