ANCIENT ETRUSCAN SETTLEMENT
The name comes from the Latin Impruneta in prunetis means "within the pine forests" in reference to the area where it was found a painting of the Vergine Maria painted by San Luca. This cult and the basilica is linked to the history of the country. Impruneta fits within the territory of Florence and the Fiorentina Area, rich in vineyards and olive groves, at the border to the Chianti Classico area. The landscapes and views that can be observed from the village of Impruneta are suggestive and impactful.
Ancient Etruscan settlement became a centre of trade around the year 1000; it was a fief of the Buondelmonti, participated in the battles finally followed the fortunes of feudal and Firenze.
The town's main square hosts the Basilica di S.Maria dell’Impruneta, romanesque church with 17th-century porch and belfry of the 13th century. The Museo del Tesoro maintains silvers and a bas-relief depicting the discovery of the image of our Lady. Impruneta is located nearby the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, an American monument in honor of the fallen of World War II.

Pottery located in Impruneta is famous all over the world. Are kept in these areas still old furnaces that adopt production techniques of the past. In autumn Impruneta is the ideal place to visit one of the many mills in the area and taste the local oil. The main square of the town houses in summer numerous festivals, concerts and events.
