ONE Of THE OLDEST TUSCAN VILLAGES
This small but charming village of Val di Cecina, whose origins are traced between 3000 and 2000 BC, were civilised from 1114 becoming a place to guard important throughout the surrounding area. The name of this village comes from this particular function that was maintained throughout the medieval period.
Inside the old town you can visit two beautiful churches were renovated and enlarged in the second half of the nineteenth century: the Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine and the Chiesa di San Lorenzo e Sant'Agata.
Traditions and Typical products
The typical products of Guardistallo are two desserts typical of Tuscan cuisine.
The buccellato, a cake made with eggs and sugar flavoured by anise and raisins, and the castagnaccio, a dessert made with chestnut flour and enriched with raisins, pine nuts and walnuts.
