MEDICI CHARM STILL INTACT
As evidenced by the fascinating wall that wraps entirely, Grosseto is the Tuscan city par excellence where time seems to have stopped. Located in the heart of Maremma, flat area that extends towards the southern part of Tuscany, has distant origins traced back to Etruscan times. The strong mark left by the family of Medici who wanted to make of Grosseto the wheat supply source for Florence, is reflected from the walls of 1574 which served to defend the city.
Work of art in the center of Grosseto is the Duomo, with a 19th century façade magazine than the original 12th century building with Romanesque bichromatic bands that reflect the initial prospectus.
Very interesting and well worth a visit is the Museum of archaeology and art of the Maremma, where they kept sacred paintings covering a period from 1200 to 1600. Inside it you can also admire priceless artifacts dating back to the Paleolithic.
Traditions
Grosseto and the entire province, with the arrival of the new harvest season celebrated for centuries on Maggio. An ancient reenactment wishing good fortune with the traditional Canto del Maggio to all farmers, for the harvest to come.
Typical products
Grosseto, city of art and culture has always been careful to accommodate the traditional recipes of the beautiful and lush land of Maremma. One of the typical dishes is the "acquacotta", a soup made of vegetables that vary according to the season in which it is cooked, very old dish that consumed the Cowboys during the working day in the countryside. The many dining options allow you to enjoy everything more tasty Tuscany has to offer, like the red wines of the "Morellino di Scansano DOCG".
