A STORY LINKED TO BIG NAMES
The Foundation of Florence and the Florentine Area dates back to Roman times, but was also home of the Etruscans and the Ligurians. During the middle ages the Guelph city was the scene of clashes with Siena. With Cosimo de ' Medici in 1434 began flourishing during the Renaissance. The Medici family ruled Florence and became real for many centuries; with Lorenzo il Magnifico, the Republic was transformed into the Principality. In 1737 Florence was marked by the rise of the Habsburg-Lorraine and in 1860 it was annexed to Italy.
This area was the home to big names like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Masaccio, Fra Angelico, Verrocchio, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Andrea della Robbia.
Last but not least, was the father of the Italian language in Florence, Dante Alighieri, the Divine Comedy which made star of his beloved city.

Among the traditions, certainly the most famous is that of Calcio Storico Fiorentino. Born in the 16th century is a discipline that takes place in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence. Events held in Florence the oldest and most striking is the explosion of the cart, celebrated in the Piazza del Duomo.

Florence and its surroundings are renowned for the craft. Each lane has a centuries-long tradition of crafts related to leather processing and leather. While for fashion lovers Florence is a mix of elegant shopping streets.
Florence and its surroundings are a gastronomic pole, there are many. The most important are: the steak, lampredotto (dish made of one of the four stomachs of cattle), the "offal" (veal innards), crushed fiorentina (typical of Carnival) and fettunta ( classic Tuscan bruschetta).
