NATURAL STAGE FOR THE HISTORY
Firenzuola mail on the side near to Imola of the Appennino tosco-romagnolo includes in its territory the massive rock formation called Sasso di San Zanobi.
Born as a settlement over the Apennines to oppose the power of the counts Ubaldini, dates from this precise historical moment the birth of Firenzuola, when the Ubaldini were defeated and their territory included among those of the Florentine Republic. In 1306, the commune of Florence decided then to start a civitas in the conquered territories, the construction of Castrum Florentiole, began in 1332.
During the second world war, unfortunately, the country was devastated by fierce fighting between the allies and the Germans, perched on the famous Gothic line.
Traditions
the territory is characterized by the presence of quarries from which it draws the "serena" stone; the processing of and trade in this rock have been for years the hub around which revolved the entire local economy. Today the fortress of Firenzuola is the "Museo della pietra serena" to celebrate the city's Masons and this particular material used extensively throughout the area.
Typical products
The "IGP Mugello marrone", is one of the typical products of the territory of Firenzuola. Their completely organic production does not require the use of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as the preservation of the product that doesn't use chemical treatments or additives.
