A URBAN CONNECTION
Figline and Incisa Valdarno is a town of about 24 thousand inhabitants born in 2014 from the merger of the towns of Figline Valdarno (whose origin dates back to the year 1000) and Incisa Val d'arno. Is one of the most interesting urban area of Florence and is situated on the left bank of the Arno.
The main square is Piazza Marsilio Ficino in the Centre of Figline and is a typical square 1200 mercantile where you place the Colleggiata di Santa Maria of the 12th century and, in the annex, is a Museo della Collegiata. The city centre is the Teatro Comunale Garibaldi, opened in 1871, which every year offers a full calendar of cultural entertainment. Also interesting are chiesa romanica di S.Francesco and villa di S.Cerbone .
In Incisa la torre del Castellano and near the top the house where the poet Francesco Petrarca . It is worth visiting the chiesa di Santi Cosma e Damiano at the nursery, the chiesa di Sant'Alessandro containing a triptych by Andrea di Giusto.
Around to Gaville is pieve di S. Romolo in which is housed the "Museo della civiltà contadina". The hills of Incisa and precisely in Loppiano is the first international town founded on the principle of universal brotherhood.
Traditions and typicality
Among the traditions at Gaville in the commune of Figline is held every year in may the "Festa della Primavera". While in Figline Valdarno we celebrate the "Palio di San Rocco", born in 1973 from rides, horse racing and renaissance tournaments today recalled the event.
