LOVELY PLACE
The city of Fiesole stands on a double hill overlooking the valleys of the Arno and the Mugnone about 6 kilometers from Firenze. The hills on which is laid out for 295 metres above the "Città del giglio" and far recall the characteristic shape of a Crescent Moon.
Fiesole is one of the most important Etruscan centers of antiquity, on the southern slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. After having organized a free municipality in the 12th century, Firenze the conquest and also marks the decline by reducing it to a pile of ruins and quarry materials for the nearby town.
The second half of the 19th century (when Florence became capital of Italy, 1865-1870) in Fiesole kicks off an impressive work of reconstruction and urban expansion, with new residences and housing and middle-class until the town hires basically the present appearance.
Traditions and typical products
The oil of the hills of Fiesole is the star of the show "Gusta Fiesole", an event that sees the Firenze area committed to promoting the virgin olive oil and agro-food products of quality in hilly area stretching between Fiesole and Calenzano.
