The Maremma is rich in tasty foods, typical Tuscan dishes, excellence of the territory that have been handed down for generations and they do great on the territory. The Sfratto di Pitigliano is something more: it is a sweet with an ancient history, disputed between those who argue that it is the result of an Etruscan recipe and who said that comes from migrations of Jews in the 17th century.
Today it is said that the Evictions come just from a story during the years of the Granducato of Tuscany, when Cosimo II de' Medici ordered at the Jewish population of Pitigliano eviction from historic to the ghettos of the country, the anecdote name to this Tuscan specialty.
The cookies have a filling consisting of finely chopped,based on pecan, honey, spices of Maremma and orange zest, covered with a thin dough without yeast, as dictated by traditional recipe.
Evictions are ideal for a power breakfast, but also to close with taste and sweetness a typical Tuscan meal; easy to find in the craft shops of Pitigliano, due to the careful crafting Tuscan handmade.
