The agricultural holding Cosimo Maria Masini is nestled on the hills of the ancient medieval village of San Miniato, along the Via Francigena, in the heart of Tuscany, in the province of Pisa.
Here is the family estate, where for almost 20 years a path has begun that has placed biodynamic agriculture in the center, in an area of 40 hectares among vineyards, olive groves and arable crops.
It is a place rich in history and culture, with its ancient mansion, Villa la Selva, which belonged to the Buonaparte family for over five centuries, from whose Corsican branch Napoleon was born, later acquired by the Marquis Cosimo Ridolfi, founder of Accademia dei Georgofili.
The Masini family, always attentive to respect and protection of the environment, started its activity in 2000 by cultivating the vineyards with organic methods, until then adopting the techniques of the Biodynamic agriculture, of which it obtained the certification: a method that does not it only excludes the use of chemical fertilizers and synthesis, but that even seeks to regenerate the soil through biological activators, so that the plants can find their nourishment in the soil itself. A microcosm, where the combination of these factors allows the growth of good, healthy and flavor rich grapes.
From these grapes, harvested by hand, and through a winemaking process devoid of enological adjuvants, such as enzymes, tannins and selected yeasts, a wine is born that preserves faithful and intact the characteristics of the terroir, which can be appreciated in tastings inside the estate.
Small productions, which want to be a way to live an experience with nature and discover the enogastronomic traditions of Tuscany, thus giving the consumer unique wines with an authentic flavor.
The company's goal is to learn to understand the rhythms of nature and its energy so as to practice "green" agriculture. Since 2004, conversion has begun from traditional to organic and biodynamic crops.
What makes the farm Cosimo Maria Masini special is the passion for sharing the approach to biodynamics with people from the most diverse countries and cultures. The WWOOF acronym of World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farm, an initiative born in England and that today allows enthusiasts of the theme to gain experience in farms or small family businesses offering their work in exchange for food and lodging; to learn the different methods of sustainable agriculture.
