THE SACRED ART OF DELLA ROBBIA AND SIGNORELLI
Cortona with a surface of 342.97 km ² is the fourth largest city in Tuscany.
Among the most significant monuments in the "Chiesa di San Francesco di Assisi", built in 1245, which houses the relics of the Saint. Don't miss to visit the "Museo Diocesano" in which to admire the "Annunciazione" by Andrea della Robbia in addition to "Deposizione" by Luca Signorelli. In the city you can also find the "Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca e della Città" of Cortona, which displays archaeological remains from Etruscan areas of environment, witnesses of the ancient origins of the city.
Traditions and Typical products
La "Giostra dell'archidado", is a medieval tradition dating back to just before the year 1000 with the parade of Quintieri. Since 1994 the representatives of the districts will compete with crossbows, recalling the celebrations held for the wedding of an old local family.
Among the typical chianina steak; a product to be enjoyed together with the great tuscan wine of the territory.
