Chitignano

YOUNG MUNICIPALITY

Over the centuries there were under his command the powerful families of Florence and Arezzo, including accounts Ubertini. The symbol of the town is the Castello degli Ubertini, you still retain the guardhouse, prison, room of judgments, arms and the keep. A few minutes from the Castle, the old town hall, now belonging to a religious institution. Two significant churches are: the Chiesa di San Pietro and the Chiesa di San Vincenzo inside which you can admire two seventeenth-century paintings in excellent condition.

Inside the Museo della polvere da sparo e del contrabbando  you can discover this ancient and unique activities that took place during the nineteenth century. In addition, the presence of thermal waters, popular since the middle ages make continuous pilgrimage destination.

 

Traditions

Among the events of Chitignano there is the Festa di San Vincenzo held on 22 February in honour of the Patron Saint. The municipality also celebrates the Sagra della pecora, July 29 and 30 days, focused on this meat with lots of food stands.

 

Typical products

Products offering the territory are those typical casentinese, like the "scottiglia" (stew prepared with many meats), the Cetica Red Potato, and fresh pastas including gnocchi and ravioli.
