MEDIEVAL TOWN RICH OF HISTORY
The origin of the name Cetona perhaps derives from an ancient Church paleocristiana mentioned in documents of 1275.
Cetona was inhabited since Etruscan and Roman times, while in 1207 you have the first evidence of the castle of Cetona. The village was under the Dominion of the Republic of Orvieto and then move in 1418 for a century and a half the Republic of Siena.
In 1556 the inhabitants surrendered to the conquest of the Imperial Army and the village was so absorbed by the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
