THE CITIZEN FROM THE NAPOLEONIC ORIGINS
Cavriglia is part of the upper Valdarno area, which is the easternmost area of the region that crosses the slopes of the Chianti region.
Cavriglia is founded only in 1809 when Napoleon separated from San Giovanni Valdarno. Originally a poor area, but over time thanks to the exploitation of deposits of brown coal became the richest town of the province of Arezzo. It covers an area of 60.87 km² and is among the cities elected military valor for the sacrifice of its people during World War II.
The story of Cavriglia during the Nazi era can be discovered at the multimedia Museo di Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni, a hamlet just 5 minutes from Cavriglia. In Florence you can visit the natural park; the surrounding area is full of ancient villages to visit as Montaio and blacks.
