THE TRADITION OF THE ANCIENT PALIO
Casole d'Elsa extends west into the heart of the hilly area of the Montagnola Senese and is surrounded by the green of the Monterufoli's Reserve.
The casole has an ancient history; It was already inhabited during the bronze age as evidenced by some exhibits. The casole was seat of the Bishops of Volterra who were staying in the old Castle of which even today the remains are observed; the village grew considerably in the Middle Ages.
Colle Val d'Elsa is a lovely Tuscan village that can be covered on foot. Explore the historic centre you can discover its old charm and visit beautiful old churches.
Traditions and Typical products
The most important event of the village is the Palio di Casole d'Elsa. A party feature for locals reached 143° Edition, where the four districts compete in a horse race. The Palio closes two whole-day Festival where you can taste the typical dishes of the Val d'Elsa.
In many wine shops around Casole you can enjoy the excellent wines and the classic "Tuscan taglieri" with cold meats and cheeses.
