VILLAGE ALONG THE STRADA DEL VINO

The territory is inhabited since ancient times, this is testified by archaeological excavations have unearthed the remains of an Etruscan village in the 7th century. Castle and main centre of the area during the rule of the Gherardesca counts, then passed in 1406 under the control of Florence following its destiny. Its beautiful medieval village has been included among the most beautiful villages in Italy, bearing the Bandiera Arancione of the Touring Club.

Among the notable buildings: the Casa del Camarlingo, one of the oldest in the country, was part of the walls and the Palazzo della Canonica that preserves the remains of a Roman room with black and white mosaic floor and fragments of colored grout.

 

Traditions and typical products

In the grounds around the country are produced cereals, oil and precious wines Montescudaio DOC. Casale Marittimo is also crossed by the Strada del Vino Costa degli Etruschi,, to experience the food and wine of Tuscany.
