The Cantina Cooperativa di Pitigliano was founded in 1954 by the will of 11 founding members, with the aim of collecting and transforming the great quality wine production coming from the Maremma territory.
Today there are about 400 members and their vineyards are located in the hills of the municipalities of Pitigliano, Sorano and Manciano, for a total of about 450 hectares. The union of these small producers makes it possible to present a single high-level product on the market.
Thanks to the favorable climate and the characteristics of the tuff soil, of volcanic origin, there are numerous vines that have found their ideal habitat in these areas.
Among the white vines can be listed: Tuscan Trebbiano, Tuscan Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Vermentino, Viognier, Ansonica, Verdello. While among the red vines we find: Sangiovese, Merlot, Ciliegiolo, Cabernet, Aleatico.
These types of grapes are the protagonists of the wines of the Winery and allow to offer a wide range of products: not only Doc Bianco di Pitigliano, but also red Doc Sovana, Doc Maremma Ciliegiolo and Doc Maremma Vermentino and Igt Toscani.
Also interesting are the wines of the organic line and Kasher line (which follows the ancient technique of rabbis), sparkling wines, grappa and Vin Santo.
In 2009 the Winery expanded its activity and used some unused internal rooms as an oil mill. Today the oil mill of the Pitigliano Winery is a renowned reality that allows to propose (with a cold extraction process) a high-end oil, obtained from the olives delivered by the members. The types of oil produced are: PGI, extra virgin olive oil, organic and kosher.
The horizons of the Cantina Cooperativa di Pitigliano are constantly evolving and in 2018 the structure has also equipped itself with a modern and functional point of sale also dedicated to tasting, where, in addition to wines and oil, you can taste and buy typical products of Maremma.
