VILLAGE DOMINATED BY THE ROCCA ESTENSE
The municipality of Camporgiano is situated on the right bank of the river Serchio, in a valley that separates the Apuan Alps and the Apennines.
Its origins date back to Roman times, hypothesis substantiated by the discovery in the territory of coins from the period. During the Roman domination Camporgiano had some commercial importance because crossed by the "via Clodia". In 1345 came under the Dominion of the Pisani until 1371 year when she returned to become part of the territory of Lucca. La "Rocca estense of Camporgiano" erected around the 15th century and today still visible, dominates the main square of the village, at the foot of the fortress.
Traditions and Typical products
Camporgiano every July there is the traditional Festival internazionale del Folklore. During the show, shows, dances and folk songs with groups from the five continents.
Among the typical products of the territory, the honey of Garfagnana. The abundant spring flowers give life to a product that is considered among the best in Europe with several variations, from the clear honey, aromatic millefiori to the intense chestnut honey.
