HOME OF THE MOST FAMOUS OF ITALY PORCELAIN
The municipality, mainly mountainous, takes place in the longitudinal direction, between the Calvana chain and the Monte Morello. The area is crossed by several rivers, including the creek Marina and the creek Marinella that flow into the river Bisenzio.
The story of Calenzano has ancient origins, during Roman rule, the foundation of Florentia and the best connections made possible by the via Cassia, made him take a considerable strategic importance.
In modern times most notable is the first half of the nineteenth century period in which had a strong expansion the Manifattura di Porcellane Ginori a Doccia; in 1873 they were 500 and became 1500 in 1896 upon merger with Richard of Milan.
Traditions and typical products
Centre of expertise for the production of olive oil, Calenzano, continuing a tradition in vogue at the Etruscans, ancient inhabitants of the area and "inventors" of cosmetics based on olive oil, has launched the Cosméoli, a line of oleocosmetici (SOAP, shampoo, body lotion and bath salts) Atc branded (Tourist Board of Calenzano).
The town is some years ago the Associazione Nazionale Città dell’Olio .
