SECRET GARDEN
The municipality of Buggiano was inhabited by Etruscans and Romans for its strategic position from which he controlled the road connecting the cities of Florence and Lucca.
The village developed around the 10th century when the community began to build their houses in the hills and the Valley. Buggiano Castello is the historic centre of the municipality on the site of the old castle with its fortification system which envisaged a castle whose ruins are visible today in the two square towers.
In 1329, Buggiano came under the Dominion of Florence political and economic sharing its fortunes and remained there until the eighteenth century when it passed under the rule of France.
Traditions and Typical products
Every two years the commune of Buggiano organizes the event "La Campagna dentro le Mura”, that in spring the private gardens of Buggiano Castello are open to the public to observe the many botanical varieties including many citrus. For this reason Buggiano was renamed as "Borgo degli Agrumi".
