ART AND TRADITION
Bientina, positioned in the center of the area of the lower Valdarno and the plain of Lucca boasts a very ancient past. Inhabited since Etruscan times, the country knows a strong development around 1179 when there arose a series of defensive constructions visible today in the towers of the old Castle.
Two churches in the heart of the village are worth noting. The Chiesa di San Domenico which contains a 17th century an Ultima Cena by Aurelio Lomi and the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, with Rococo additions in the 18th century.
Traditions and Typical products
Bientina hosts two events every year to relive the medieval costumes. The first is the Palio of Bientina, race that takes place in the setting of piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, where the 10 contradas compete on horseback to compete for the Cencio, a decorated cloth. The second is Il Carnevale bientinese, whose first edition dates back to 1939 he captured with regularity to be celebrated since 1988. On this occasion the floats parading in a festive atmosphere, between singing and dancing.
