CHARMING VILLAGE OF CHIANTI
Barberino Val d'Elsa is only a few kilometres more pearls that make up the Valley such as San Gimignano, Certaldo and Montespertoli; a small portion of the Township is within the area of Chianti, famous for its production of the famous wine.
The history of Barberino Val d ' Elsa is linked to the destruction of Semifonte by the Florentines in 1202. Its development was tied to the location of the village on the Roman Road connecting Florence with Rome. Turreted walls and two gates that still surround the town centre, bear witness to its past of important Florentine outpost since 1054.
Traditions
A series of works on the territory of Barberino artisans maintain historical memory. Wrought iron, furniture manufacturing and small artifacts for the home, without forgetting the art of restoration and ceramics are activities that hold high the name of local crafts.
Typical products
Land of the "Chianti Classico DOCG Barberino", the 1932 legislation divided the territory of Barberino in three Subzones, one belonging to the Chianti Classico, one belonging to the Florentine hills and Chianti.
