ANCIENT THERMAL BATHS
The country owes its name to the presence of a thermal bath in roman times. The triangular-shaped territory covers an area of approximately 74 km2, with the base in the North, along the course of the Arno and the south summit, at Santo Stefano a Tizzano, where does the Valle dell'Ema and Val di Rubbiana.
Its origins date back to the Etruscan period and then prior to the founding of the renowned Florentia. Under Roman rule the town became a crossroads of trade and in the 13th century seat of the League of Ragu, one of 72 community federations in which it was divided by the Florentine countryside. In 1774 the land area was reduced until the formation of Florence and the subsequent amendments to the '900 which was given to the municipality the current boundaries.
Traditions
Bagno a Ripoli is rich in culture and history which finds expression in three folk events. The commemoration of Good Friday to Grassina is an example "en plein air" in which the characters of Holy Week across the country and the nearby hill transformed the landscape of Tuscany in the natural setting of Christ's death. The Ancient Fair of the Antella, traditional view of animals today also animated with educational activities for children that focus on rural life and agricultural techniques.
Typical
The production of wine in the hills a revocation is one of agricultural activities. Main grape variety is Sangiovese inducted into the controlled origin denomination Chianti Colli Fiorentini.
