MEDIEVAL HUB OF THE ANCIENT VIA FRANCIGENA
Aulla lies at the foot of the Valley of Lunigiana, a few kilometres from Liguria.
Developed in the middle ages thanks to the vicinity of the Via Francigena, one of the most important road axis of the era. Trace remains of the past of Aulla in the upper part of the town that houses the Fortezza della Brunella, fortified building most imposing of the entire Lunigiana. Characterized by a Renaissance style architecture, the fortress still retains the charm of its uncertain origins, it was not possible to determine the exact year of its construction.
In the town there are statues of well-known characters, including a memorial to cyclist Marco Pantani and a Carrara marble statue of Bettino Craxi.
Traditions and Typical products
Typical of the place are the flat cakes of Aulla, a wheat and corn flour bread that is baked in the lyrics, terracotta pans and ideal to accompany meats or cheeses of Tuscany.
