Mela Rugginosa in Valdichiana

The exquisite mela rugginosa

Mela Rugginosa is a true delicacy of the Valdichiana. This Apple variety is much loved for the sweetness of its flesh and preservation that has been going on for a long time.

Valdichiana's place for the growth of this fruit thanks to the microclimate which here is and that allows you to create the typical rusty color on part of the Peel. Her production takes place mainly in the municipalities of Monte San Savino, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Cortona, Foiano della Chiana and Montevarchi.

Mela Rugginosa are harvested in October and a plant may get to give a crop of about 35 kg. In addition to the kiln are also great for making jams and compotes.
