HISTORY AND TRADITION OF TUSCANY
Anghiari is part of the Valtiberina, the easternmost part of Tuscany and takes its name from the River Tiber running through it. The fame of the village is derived from being the scene of the battle fought in the year 1440 between fiorentini and milanesi. Its history can be discovered at Palazzo Marzocco, seat of the Museo della Battaglia.
Included among i borghi più belli d'Italia has the tourism and environmental quality brand Orange flag, which is awarded to small towns that are distinguished by an excellent tourist accommodation.
Traditions
In Anghiari, during the week of August, the event takes place Tovaglia a Quadri, a show that offers al fresco celebrating the past. A commemoration where people entertain the public with theatrical interpretations and where to discover local crafts by visiting the workshop of master Saints, expert of woodworking.
Typical products
The specialty of Anghiari? The Brignoli, particular spaghetti of fresh pasta, without egg, worked to hand according to the traditional preparation. A first dish seasoned with the meat sauce of goose, perfect to combine to a Tuscan red wine.
